Hi everyone and welcome to my 2011 wiki page.

My year so far has been great so far, apart from my friend Megan left just this week. This term we are looking at speeches but I have not the faintest idea on what I could do as my subject. I am one of the wiki monitors for my class which means I get to learn how to create our class wiki, so if I want to create a wiki of my own I will know how to edit my page. I am learning the guitar at school now which is great because I love music and already play the piano. This week we have been studying expositions and have done my draft on Intermediate students shouldn't be able to decide on what subjects they choose. Lately we have been writing sonnets. Here are some of my pieces of writing:

Speeches 2011:

This year I am doing my speech on 'National standards is set too high and is damaging students. Here is my appetising introduction:

Hey, are you acheiving 'at' in your writing?
Well now as we speak your level is rapidly dropping, dropping to below, even down to well below. National standards is set far to high and we can change that. By setting standards higher does not mean that students will aheive that level, raising standards may limit what teachers teach, and above is now limited to a minute number of New Zealand students (less than 4%)!

I have now finished my speech and it is now on que cards. I just need to print one more thing of and ajust it which I'm doing tonight after school at my mum's school.

Two of my Cinquain's

The oak
Gigantic tree
Searching, shading, knobbly
Comforting for the young children
So old

Gardens
Beautiful plants
Silent, rustling, deadly
Overcrowded, plants everywhere
Weedy

For my science fair 2011 I am testing which plastic wrap prevents oxidation and evaporation the most efficiently. I am thinking about whether I should send my plastic wrap samples off to an independent testing laboratory to see if any of my samples contain traces of the chemical building block Bisphenol A (commonly known as BPA). BPA can be harmful to the human body if taken if huge amounts. BPA can be found in plastic containers and tin cans (mostly canned soups). If you want to find out more about BPA I found this website: www.bisphenol-a.org it has some great information on BPA.

NOT A FLUKE!!

On 4th - 6th of April 2011 I traveled to Totara Springs Cristian Camp in Matamata. I stayed at the bottom camp first. I camped in a tent with Shahani, Caitlin, and Tayla. The activities I participated in are as follows: Kayaking, Raft making, making Damper, Bridge Jump, First aid course, Eeling. On the second night we hiked up to the top camp and we were able to sleep in cabins. I shared a cabin with Caitlin, Shahani, Katlin, Nichole and Shareen. The activities that I participated in include: Hydroslide, Hot Mineral pool, Flying Fox, Blast, Archery, Trivia, Team building and Rock climbing. There was a playground and my favourite part of it was the Lullaby (a giant swing that can hold 10 people) I did not participate in Abseiling. I thought that camp was a great experience that I was lucky to be able to participate in.

Last week we were studying Statistics. We had to get into groups of 4, my group was Hamish, Seth and Sera. We asked eight students from four different classes (rooms 31, 33, 39 and 40) which were a random mix of years 7 & 8 and boys and girls; to make sure our sample is biased. We asked five questions: Do you go to the canteen more than once a month; if you do go what do you rate the service from 1-10; when do you most often buy from the canteen do you order in the morning, buy in the morning or do you buy at lunch; if you don't go to the canteen more than once a month why don't you go and what would you like to see. I'm very proud with the final result of our statistics investigation although we could have managed our time more efficiently.

In class we have been studying Shakespeare. We had to choose a Shakespeare play to re-write and then perform the modernized version. We (Shahani, Aria, Caitlin, Emma, Sera and I) chose to re-write Romeo and Juliet. Shahani plays Nurse, Narrator and Old Capulet; Aria plays the Messenger, Tybalt and Paris; Caitlin plays Mecrutio and Friar Laurance; Emma plays Benvolio, Lady Capulet and Old Montague; Sera plays Juliet and I play Romeo. Here is a video that explains one of the scenes in our play.
